Neuro-Ophthalmology

Neuro-ophthalmology concerns the connections between the brain and the eye.  More than half of the brain’s activity relates to visual function, so it is not surprising that a wide range of brain disorders may result in vision problems.   Patients referred to Ophthalmology Associates for consultation may be experiencing

  • Loss of vision or visual field

  • Double vision

  • Droopy eyelid

  • Unequal pupils

  • Facial spasms

  • Headache

A detailed examination along with special tests such as color vision testing, measurements with prisms, automated visual fields, or pupil response to specific eye drops may be necessary.  Facilities for advanced procedures, including CT scanning, MRI, and electrical testing of the retina and optic nerve are available nearby.
